Camp was fun, but my plane trip to Toronto was... eventful, to say the least. I drew a comic about it, which I'll upload once I get home and have a scanner again.
As for camp, the stage combat course was super fun, and not NEARLY as hard as I had thought it would be. Mostly because we weren't outside as much as I thought we would be because an addition had been added to the gym. Hooray for shade and AC when you're exercising! XD The program itself was amazing. I learned a whole lot about stage combat, and the group was an amazing bunch of kids. Really funny and creative and just fun to be around. Not to mention that I was surrounded by a bunch of cute boys.
Program Director: Okay, guys, listen up.
*everyone stops except two boys who are still fighting*
PD: HEY! *they look up* Boys, stop playing with each other's sticks.
*everyone cracks up*
Pretending to punch someone or pretending to get kicked in the face is actually really fun. I mean, you might not think it at first. I only took the course because I knew that I needed more combat practice to excel at acting. But stage combat is SO much fun. Especially hand to hand combat stuff.
Other fun activities in camp were a ninja training camp (Fire Clan!), making up a song about Canada for Canada day, making a play in one day, a dinner playing Mafia between all the dorms, a mini-session on drawing comics, and a talent show that ROCKED. I hate to boast about anything, but I know for a fact that I'm an amazing singer and I'm not afraid to show off. So that's what I did. I sang Memory from CATS, and got a standing ovation. Now, a lot of acts in the talent show got standing ovations, but the MOMENT the last note ended, the audience went nuts; EVERYONE stood up immediately. Also, for the day trip and went to see The Tempest. Hooray for Shakespeare!
During the final performance, the group reenacted fights from various movies. The entire group did the scene from Pirates of the Caribbean 3 where Will proposes to Elizabeth in the middle of a huge battle. I never actually got to kill anyone during that, though. I was kind of a punching bag. XD The other fights including Rush Hour 2, Forbidden Kingdom, Fight Club, and THE PRINCESS BRIDE! I got to play Inigo Montoya and kill the six fingered man. "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." XD There's a picture of it on the website. [link]
Overall, it was a very fun camp experience, but I am glad to be back in civilization.
....Awww, fuck it, who am I kidding? I wish I were back at camp. I love you guys and I love my friends and all of the amazing things at home, but Centauri is like my second home. The amount of time I've actually spent there only totals about two months, but those two months have been some of the best of my life. It's such a welcoming and friendly community. After only three days, each individual dorm group and program group have developed a strong bond. Centauri is what helped me realize that acting as masculine as I want to isn't as out of the ordinary as I thought it was. It's helped me discover who I am and how to be a better person. Each day is a new adventure and it's been so much fun, I don't know how I'm going to be able to leave it.
That's why I've decided to apply to become a counselor there next year. True, I'll be there for nine weeks, but it's an amazing place and it'll be worth it.
On that note, if any of you are young enough to go to camp, (I know I have watchers who are under eighteen,) I insist you try to go there. It's fucking amazing.
